Tous les membres de Jews Against the Occupation ’48 (JAO48) adressent leurs plus sincères condoléances aux victimes de l’attaque violente survenue hier à Bondi Beach ainsi qu’à leurs proches. Nous condamnons toute forme de violence fondée sur la race, la foi ou les convictions politiques, et nous appelons la population australienne à s’abstenir de tout préjugé raciste ou sectaire en réaction à cette terrible attaque.
Nous sommes profondément préoccupés par le risque que cet attentat horrible soit instrumentalisé à des fins politiques dangereuses. Nous vivons une époque marquée par des tragédies humaines à l’échelle mondiale : génocides, massacres, famines et dévastations totales commis contre des peuples et des nations innocents. En ce moment décisif, les communautés du monde doivent s’unir pour s’opposer aux pouvoirs et aux systèmes qui favorisent et perpétuent de telles formes de terreur.
De même, les communautés multiculturelles d’Australie sont appelées à défendre une société sans racisme ni intolérance, où chacun a le droit de vivre dans la justice, la paix et la dignité. Le courage manifesté par Ahmad al Ahmad, lorsqu’il a désarmé l’un des tireurs, montre qu’un musulman peut venir en aide à un juif, qu’un juif peut venir en aide à un musulman, qu’un inconnu peut aider un autre inconnu, et qu’un ami peut secourir un ami — lorsque nous prenons conscience que nous ne faisons qu’un.
Le collectif JAO48 se déclare prêt à collaborer avec tous les Australiens touchés par cette tragédie afin d’éviter qu’elle n’entraîne un cycle de violence.

Statement by Jews Against The Occupation ‘48 in response to the Bondi Beach attack
All members of Jews Against the Occupation ’48 (JAO48) extend their deepest condolences to the victims and their loved ones of the violent attack in Bondi Beach yesterday. We condemn all violence based on race, faith or political persuasion, and urge the Australian community to refrain from any bigoted racist prejudice in response to this terrible attack.
There is extreme concern that this horrific event may be used for dangerous political agendas. We live in a time bearing witness to global manmade tragedy: genocides, massacres, famines and utter devastation committed against innocent peoples and nations. In this moment, the communities of the world must stand together against the powers and systems that promote and execute such terror.
Likewise, the multicultural communities of Australia are called to stand for a society without racism and bigotry, where everyone has the right to live in justice, peace and dignity. The bravery shown by Ahmad al Ahmad, when he disarmed one of the gunmen, demonstrates that a Muslim will help a Jew, and a Jew a Muslim, a stranger another stranger, and a friend another friend, when we realise that we are all one.
JAO48 stands ready to work with all Australians affected by this horror to help ensure it does not lead to a cycle of violence.
